RagTime is a scientific, technical and business desktop publishing computer program. The software combines spreadsheet features with word processing and embedded multimedia.

In practice, this allows the user to create publication-ready documents that combine many capabilities within a single page, such as multilingual word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, databases, and programmable objects. In many institutions it is the standard program for report editing and publishing.[citation needed]

The current (January 2007) version for Mac OS and Windows is 6.0.1. Besides the aforementioned, recent versions include capabilities for making fully programmable dynamic presentations, HTML publishing, video and sound filing and editing (limited), and the possibility of handling DWG files (Autocad). RagTime also supports behaviors through plugins. For example, geo-referenced map rendering is supported using a plug-in developed by a third party[1] that reads and transforms DXF and SHAPE files and articulates them to data in a spreadsheet, that also resides within the document.

DescriptionEdit

You don't create text or tables; you create documents. The result of your work is judged by the finished printed document. Reports, price lists, analyses and sales materials are more than simply text, spreadsheets and charts. It is the combination of all the elements, which transforms a text into a report and a table into an analysis that is ready for a presentation.

Up to now, you haven't used layout programs, because you couldn't afford to do without spreadsheet calculations or text processing. Now you can give your work that final polish. With RagTime, you have a single convenient layout environment in which you can process text, tables, drawings, pictures and graphs. The intuitive user interface simplifies your quick access to all of RagTime's functions.
